Throughout the training career of the Chief Instructor Sensei Derek Ridgway, many instructors have influenced his training.

Interviews and pictures of some of these people can be seen in the following pages. Some of the people involved include:

Sensei Keiji Tomiyama

Keiji TomiyamaSensei Keiji Tomiyama 7th Dan is one of the most senior Shito-Ryu Instructors in Europe. He has been teaching at Kazoku Kai Clubs for over 15 years. Sensei Derek Ridgway considers Sensei Tomiyama one of the finest Karate-Ka he has trained under and he has the greatest influence on the Karate Derek now teaches.

 

Sensei Roy Partridge

Roy Partridge Sensei Roy Partridge 5th Dan was a senior Karate-Ka of the Wado-Ryu style. He was the first Instructor to grade Sensei Derek Ridgway. Sadly he passed away in the summer of 2000, but his influence lives on in Kazoku Kai. He is greatly missed.

 

 

Sensei Peter Spanton

Peter Spanton

Sensei Pete Spanton 7th Dan is one of the most Senior Karate-Ka in the UK and is still a regular visitor to our dojos. Peter Spanton was Chief Instructor to Sensei Derek Ridgway for many years and is greatly respected as a major influence on his Karate.

 

 

Sensei Harry Cook

Harry Cook Sensei Harry Cook 6th Dan is a Senior Seijinkai Instructor of highquality, and author of many Martial Arts books. A good friend of Sensei Derek Ridgway, they conduct many training sessions and seminars together. Sensei Harry Cook is a serious Karate-Ka who Sensei Derek Ridgway holds in high regard. Sensei Harry Cook is also a fountain of knowledge in all the historical side of Karate and the Martial Arts.

Sensei Steve Cattle

Steve Cattle When Sensei Steve Cattle died in 1995, he and Sensei Derek were firm friends. They tought together all over the UK. Sensei Cattle was a Karate-Ka of world renoun, who never ceased to inspire all who trained with him. Sensei Ridgway belives he would not be hwere he is today without Sensei Steve Cattle.

 

 

Sensei Toru Takamizawa

Toru Takamizawa Sensei Toru Takamizawa, 6th Dan, was a major influence on Sensei Derek Ridgway's Wado-Ryu training. Sadly he passed away from Cancer quite recently, but his influence lives on in many senior Karate-Ka in the UK

 

 

 

Sensei Julian Mead

Julian Mead Sensei Julian Mead trains in the Yuishinkai style and is an expert in both Karate and Kobujitsu. A good friend of Sensei Derek Ridgway, they often train and teach together all over the UK and abroad. Sensei Julian, along with Sensei Harry Cook and Sensei Derek Ridgway formed the Traditional Martial Arts Federation.

 

Sensei Derek Ridgway

Sensei D Ridgway Sensei Derek Ridgway 6th Dan is the founder of the now worldwide association Kazoku Kai International. As well as teaching in his Hombu dojo, Sensei Ridgway travels across the globe to teach Karate to an ever growing family of Karate-Kai
